About Dog Camp
What is Dog Camp?
Dog camp provides your dog the opportunity to play and explore the outdoors during 2-hour structured pack adventures. We hike and explore on private land. During our two-hour hikes, we practice recall, impulse control, appropriate play, relaxation, pack walking and having fun!
Our pack is small, which allows us to pay close attention to your dog and allows your dog to form meaningful bonds with their camp mates.
Dog camp is appropriate for friendly, reliable recall dogs with no bite history or aggression.

Our Services
We know dogs need exercise. And we know that pet parents are busy people! Backcountry Buddies offers a safe place for dogs to exercise and socialize. To support their parents, we start our camp days by picking up your furry friend, traveling to our private hiking location, spending time playing and exploring, practicing relaxation, pack walking and basic training, and when your pup is tuckered out, we deliver them home to you! A tired dog is a good dog!

About Backcountry Buddies
Our Story
Hi, I'm Dana and I own and operate Backcountry Buddies. I grew up in Vermont and have always had a big heart for animals. Prior to establishing Backcountry Buddies I worked as a Paralegal for about 15 years. Then, a few years ago, while searching for enrichment opportunities for my two young, exuberant Border Collies I came across the dog camp concept. I soon realized I wanted to be a part of dog camp, not just send my dogs to dog camp! Spending all day hiking with canine friends sounded like a dream! That's when I began looking for canine education and training tools that would equip me to run my own dog camp. I soon completed the My Dog Camp course and started organizing my own dog camp business - Backcountry Buddies!
I realize the importance of education and continue to participate in workshops and courses to maintain a safe camp environment. In addition to the My Dog Camp course, I have completed various courses through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), and through Mark and Stephanie McCabe, creators of Training Between the Ears (TBTE). I am a member of APDT, the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS), and Backcountry Buddies is fully insured through Business Insurers of the Carolinas.
My canine assistants, Shelby and Finley help me provide a fun and safe camp atmosphere!
